Midsummer Night's Dream

Mid-summer night’s dream

(Listening to John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okd3hLlvvLw )

Can you imagine ‘people sharing all the world’?

YES, WE CAN!

Let me give you an idea on how to start (YES! I’m already sharing a thought, an idea… I know it’s not too much but it’s the best I could get…):

Let’s take the mid-summer day (June 24, starting at midnight, 0:00 hours).

1.   Dream, in the early hours of this day, or concentrate on what you feel your neighborhood needs to improve, in terms of being more friendly for all people living in its surrounds.

2.   Take your time to write down – on a piece of paper, on your computer, cell phone, wherever… - those main things you think should be transformed by people a.s.a.p..

3.   Share your thoughts with others from your community, through an informal Central garden meeting, church (of whichever belief), café reunion, school… you know better where it should be in your town.

4.   Prepare yourself to start working (for free), in your extra time, in those activities you feel you might be of help

5.   Do community’ work.

I’m sure we will not have results immediately – unless it is so simple as cleaning the public areas – but I am also sure that the results of this poll will bring a new sense for living to all those who are to be involved – from their hearts and minds, in a first moment, to their entire commitment in its development.

It would be very hard to be right, if anyone would want to tell you how to organize such a task, but, anyway, I feel I have to share my vision on how to do it.

It goes like this:

1.   Choose information centers (places in which information will be received and organized):

-    imagine you find the priest from your church, the café or hotel manager interested in participating, by offering their public places as the centre for operations organization:

-    Ask him/her to organize a team of volunteers to sort out the information to be received; help him/her finding those volunteers (I’m sure you already know who to invite);

-    Once you’ve got that agreement, ask all those involved to spread the goal: to obtain one, two, or three thoughts per neighbor aiming to improve human life conditions in your area of residence. Remember them, it might as well be a dream to be shared!

2.   Organizing an operations centre:

-    Look for those involved with social concerns and engage them into your team:

-    You, as a team, will be responsible for spreading the word about what is the goal for this quest, and when the time comes, to collect and sort all the information you will receive.

-    (from my experience within companies, I think you will be amazed on the amount of ideas that will point to exactly the same actions. Those might be written with different words but everyone will agree that they are meant to solve that one problem.)

-    In this search for ideas you can also prepare some small pieces of paper to be used by volunteers during ‘Mid-summer day’ by asking people on the street to give their thoughts, right there.

-    Don’t forget to tell everybody where you will publish the list of ideas you’ve gathered (it might be great to involve local newspapers, radio, or TV broadcasters…

3.   Organizing the received information

-    Create small groups of people to take care of the information received and to put that into a common ground (computer based, of course);

-    Divide the number of entries through those groups so that they decide which are similar ideas;

-    Publish the results (don’t use the names of those suggesting, except if you do a separate list for this purpose).

4.   Now is time for action:

-    Organize all volunteers (once you publish the results of your inquiries you will see that they will show up), and GO!

The world will be a very nice place!

Notes: of course there will be needs remaining unsolved, but, if this idea gets alive, I believe we will find ways to cover most of them.

The first thing we will need is REAL INFORMATION about needs so that we can organize ways to make the necessary trades that there will be the need for.

Can I have you on my side in this dream?

Can the world count on you?

Can John Lennon smile again, wherever his soul is?

The music I’ll listen to now is YES’ ‘Time and a Word’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGN2N_ttcqk

… The time is NOW and the word is LOVE…
